It’s Happening: Victor Overrules Pop

--

Spurs video section thumbnails showing Victor looking cool and in charge and Pop looking frazzled.
I know stillshots can misrepresent things, but the Spurs.com video gallery thumbnails appear to capture the moment perfectly as Victor looks cool and in charge and Pop looks sad and down.

I told you something big would come out of San Antonio in 2024 and we’ve already got New Year’s fireworks in the Alamo City:

Victor pushed aside Gregg Popovich’s minutes restriction and checked himself into the game, late in the fourth quarter against the Grizzlies.

From Victor Wembanyama himself in the Memphis post game scrum on Spurs.com:

“I wasn’t allowed to sub in but I still did it.”

Of course, after Victor broke the news of the season, some reporter changed the subject and asked about the difference in the second half.

But anyways, this is monumental.

This was the water bursting through the damn after cracks had been surfacing all season.

On December 25, my Christmas article on Spurs ownership needing to make a decision, I wrote this:

Do not be surprised if you see major news come out of the Alamo City in 2024.

This Is It

As this story still hasn’t made the rounds, I don’t know if everyone gets it: this is the turning point.

Victor wanted Pop to be a good coach and provide leadership and instruction because Victor knew Pop has invaluable experience, knowledge, and wisdom.

But Pop has made horrible decision after horrible decision and became the elephant in the room.

Victor decided 33 games in was enough.
