Sports Doctor on Victor Wembanyama’s Minutes Restrictions, MRIs: Paranoid, No Precedent

“It sets this really unusual precedent that somehow the MRI is going to show the team findings that make them confident to where he can now play back to back game games and again even that back to back portion there’s no real fundamental science there that says that playing back to back versus playing 25 minutes one night and the next night is going to have any role on healing and so this all just feels very paranoid to be honest.”

Busted.

Gregg Popovich tried to camouflage his obsession with not playing Victor Wembanyama by using the Spurs’ medical staff as a cover. Remember, team doctors supposedly made this a “mandatory” minutes restriction and sit-out on back to backs.

Well, there’s no basis in medicine (or common sense) for it and now Pop’s been exposed again.

This was Brian Sutterer MD, the most famous sports doctor in the world, busting Pop.

I came to the same conclusions in my Why Can’t Victor Play write-up two days ago.

A few more golden quotes from the good doctor.

I’m a little bit concerned and confused with some of the decisions the Spurs are making with the young star.

Me too. See my entire column.

There is no precedent whatsoever in the normal world of sports medicine to get repeat MRI scans or repeat imaging for an ankle sprain especially when somebody has been continuing to play.

Busted again.

That conservative behavior I think can go too far to where the player can get to a point to where then the player can get to a point where they don’t necessarily want to report symptoms they don’t want to tell you how they’re feeling because they’re so worried that you’re going to pull them and limit their their minutes when they’re at this early development stage of their career.

This is the most likely outcome. There’s no way in hell Victor’s ever going to say anything is hurting him again.

You run a risk of treading down a slippery slope here I can guarantee you in the normal world of sports medicine we are absolutely not getting repeat MRIs for ankle sprains most the time we don’t get an MRI period up front when somebody has an ankle sprain and so in this case it’s probably coming from the front office I can’t imagine the Spurs medical staff sees value in repeating an MRI.

So busted.

Liar.

I wonder what Victor’s reaction will be when finds out he was lied to.

It was never the medical staff the whole time. It was one control freak who made this asinine minutes restriction “mandatory.”
