Wemby Watch: Victor Misses Pelicans Loss in Possible Rest Game

Story of The Game

The Spurs sat Victor to supposed hip tightness. He was listed on the injury report for the Hawks game but played. This game may have been a known sacrifice.

Given Victor’s already extremely limited minutes (30.0 mpg over 18 games), it’s hard to tell if this is a legitimate injury or if the Spurs sat him because he had your standard bruises and bumps after 18 games and Pop had him lined up for a rest game.

If Draft Duel had a prop bet for whether this was a real injury, I’d take the under without hesitation. How many rest games does Pop have in store for Wemby this season?

Quick Thoughts

The Spurs looked more like a team without Victor.

They kept the game close for 2.5 quarters until the Pelicans slowly started to coast to an easy victory.

Charles Bassey played very well, tallying 8 points (on 4–4 FGs), 11 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 blocks in only 19 minutes. He also bodied up Jonas Valanciunas nicely on defense, slowing down the burly center.

Although Bassey has committed several bad turnovers throughout the season, he’s a solid role player and very deserving of the backup center spot. I think he could even work nicely starting alongside Victor.

I think the Spurs should sign Bassey to a long term deal and then start featuring him more alongside The Franchise.

He’s yet another legitimately solid player with potential on the Spurs roster.

Pre-Game Setup

The New Orleans-Spurs matchup is game #19 for the Spurs.

Betting: Pelicans -13, Over/Under 237.5

(Guess-Prediction: I’ll take the Spurs and the over.)

Betting Record going into the game 6–4.

The Spurs are away for this contest.
